{Restoration Hardware Inspired} Painted Books

in create, Easy DIY, Lifestyle on 01/13/15

Hello! Hope your weekend was fantastic! Ours was spent catching up on some much needed housekeeping and errands. The good news is that after a trip to the vet, sweet Bella is feeling better too. I also managed a quick project and can’t wait to share about these simple Restoration Hardware Knock Off DIY Painted Books.

Despite the boring stuff we had to do over the weekend, we did manage to make a quick stop in the new Restoration Hardware in Atlanta.

Y’all. This place is crazy. It is 70,000 square feet and 6 levels complete with a roof top lounge. We had both kids in tow so it wasn’t a super leisurely stop in, and I will try to take some pics next time I go to share with you.

Even though it was a quick strike, I still found inspiration EVERYWHERE!

Including these white books.

They were stacked everywhere in their showroom.

Light bulb moment!

After our crazy colorful Christmas, I was looking for a new way to bring more of a neutral feel into our family room. We have a library walking distance to our house so I loaded up the boys and we went on our afternoon adventure. It turns out they have a huge shelf of free books available so I stuffed as many as I could into the stroller…

To make these Restoration Hardware Knock Off DIY Painted Books all you need is some leftover paint and some books.

Free hardbacks!
Instead of using white, I used leftover Restoration Hardware Slate paint from from previous projects.

Free paint!

If you are tallying the cost= zero.

I’m still working on organizing the chaos around here. I am excited to be participating in a Winter Blog Hop on Monday so it is definitely helping me get my toosh in gear. Hopefully I will have pics of the whole family room coming then.

These looks so great! and jealous you got to see the new store : )
a few months back I covered some books with fabric for my daughters room after being inspired by their awesome display of books. Such an easy and quick way to make a difference to the room….especially when you spend $0 for it!

Heather – Your RH inspired books are fantastic! We love the pretty gray color and they look so wonderful in your decor. Also, we must be living under a rock and had no idea that the new RH store was open 🙂 Thank you so much for linking up with us at Something To Talk About! Our readers are going to love your project…thanks for sharing!

I love decorating with books and so quick and easy to do. Much cheaper than buying the faux books (which I've always done in the past). Your painted books caught my eye over at the Work It Wednesday party and reminded me I need to go thrifting for more books!

I love these! Of all the stuff I paint, I would've never thought to do this. I've been trying to think of way to cover them with something…brilliant:)

These are beautiful! I love the color and the way you have them diplayed in your home. RH is like a dream land and you nailed it! Hope you and the babys are well. Hugs, CoCo

Painting the books is a great idea. Another idea is to paint the books with the small containers of sample paints that won't be used.

Unlike other articles about decorating with books that involve destroying the books, these painted books are still perfectly readable. I absolutely want to try this with a bunch of my old college text books. Although if there are a couple of thick books that you’re sure you’ll never want to read, you could even consider cutting some of the pages to make a secret hiding space. Amazing job on your project!
